Air Peace Aircraft Strikes Antelope, Grounds Flight
By Gideon Ayeni
An Air Peace aircraft was temporarily grounded on Saturday after it collided with a large antelope during operations, leaving the animal dead and the plane classified as AOG (Aircraft on Ground).
The incident, which disrupted the airline’s schedule, was confirmed by Michael Achimugu, Director of Public Affairs and Consumer Protection at the Nigeria Civil Aviation Authority (NCAA).
While Achimugu did not disclose the airport where the incident occurred, he explained that engineers were immediately deployed to inspect and fix the affected aircraft. He acknowledged that the unexpected event may have caused delays, triggering frustration among passengers.
“Even in situations like this, the airline still owes its passengers the information, refund, and other forms of care they are entitled to,” Achimugu said in a public statement. “They can still be sanctioned if they fail to provide the necessary services.”
He clarified that his remarks were intended to help passengers understand such rare disruptions, not to excuse lapses in airline responsibilities.
