Portable AMVCA Ibrahim Chatta

Controversial Nigerian singer, Habeeb Okikiola, popularly known as Portable, has called out the organisers of the Africa Magic Viewers’ Choice Awards (AMVCA), accusing them of deliberately overlooking veteran actor Ibrahim Chatta at the recently concluded 11th edition of the prestigious event.

In a video shared on his Instagram page, Portable expressed his disappointment over Chatta’s loss in the 2025 AMVCA Best Lead Actor category, where he was nominated for his role in House of Gaa. The award ultimately went to fellow Yoruba actor, Femi Adebayo, for his performance in Seven Doors.

Visibly emotional, Portable alleged that the AMVCA and the Nigerian entertainment industry at large are plagued by favouritism and cliques that reward influence and financial power over genuine talent.

“There’s a gang up in the entertainment industry, even in Nollywood. They didn’t give Ibrahim Chatta the award despite his exceptional acting. That’s how they snubbed me at the Headies too,” he said.

The Zazoo Zeh crooner went on to criticise Nigeria’s award culture, claiming that accolades are often bought rather than earned. “We don’t need awards, we need food, we need money. But some people use money to buy awards. Ibrahim Chatta, if man won’t award you, God will reward you. You’re my boss, my mentor—I love you,” he added.
