Former Nigerian Minister of Special Duties and retired Navy Captain, Caleb Olubolade, has passed away at the age of 70, sending shockwaves through Nigeria’s political and military communities.

According to a statement issued by his children, Akinadewo and Dayo Olubolade, the former military administrator of Bayelsa State collapsed suddenly while playing lawn tennis on Sunday evening in the Apapa area of Lagos.

Despite swift intervention by nearby medical personnel, efforts to revive him proved unsuccessful. He was confirmed dead on arrival at the Obisesan Naval Medical Hospital.

The news comes barely six months after Olubolade marked his 70th birthday on November 30, 2024.

Olubolade served as Minister of Special Duties under President Goodluck Jonathan and had a notable career in the Nigerian Navy, where he rose to the rank of captain before retiring. He also briefly governed Bayelsa State as its military administrator during the military era.
