A viral video circulating on social media has raised concern over the worsening state of security in Yagba West, Kogi State, as it shows a group of travelers being escorted by armed soldiers through a rural road.

The video, shared on X (formerly Twitter), captures the unsettling scene from inside a moving vehicle, with a military truck leading the way along a dusty, uneven path flanked by thick vegetation and scattered homes. Armed personnel were visibly positioned in the military vehicle, while the traveler recording the video narrated the tense situation.

“This is the level of insecurity in Yagba West,” the text overlay on the clip read, setting the tone for what unfolds.

The narrator reveals that the group had to hire the military convoy for protection after a recent violent incident. “We are going to Kwara State. We had to charter these soldiers to follow us because there was a spray gun yesterday,” he says, referencing sporadic gunfire reported in the area just a day before.

As the convoy moved through small villages, the narrator expressed frustration and fear over the breakdown of security in what was once a peaceful part of Nigeria.

“At the headquarters of Yagba West yesterday, they were shooting sporadically,” he recounted. “Because the way Nigeria is going now, we don’t even understand again—here, in our own town.”

The video ended with the convoy pressing forward into the distance, while the narrator solemnly pleaded for divine intervention. “God will save us… Governor Ododo, come and save us in Kogi West,” he says.

The footage has triggered strong reactions online, with many Nigerians expressing outrage over the need for civilians to fund their own security.

“This is heartbreaking—paying for your own safety in your own land,” one user wrote. Another added, “When will this madness end?”

So far, authorities have not officially commented on the incident, but the video has further amplified growing concerns about rising insecurity across Nigeria, particularly in rural communities that feel increasingly abandoned.
