Bauchi Chairman Dies By-Election

Bauchi’s acting LGA chairman, Alhaji Wali Adamu, has passed away after a brief illness, just days before the upcoming by-election.

The acting chairman of Shira Local Government Area (LGA) in Bauchi State, Alhaji Wali Adamu, has tragically passed away after a brief illness. Wali, who died on Sunday, May 11, 2025, was undergoing treatment at the Federal Medical Centre in Azare, Bauchi State.

His death occurred just 13 days before the scheduled by-election, which was set to fill leadership positions in the LGA.

Wali Adamu had been appointed as the acting chairman on March 3, 2025, following the removal of his predecessor, Hon. Abdullahi Ibrahim Beli, and his deputy, Hon. Usman Adamu. The two were dismissed by the Shira Legislative Council due to allegations of misconduct, financial mismanagement, and dereliction of duty. Before his appointment, Wali had served as a councillor representing Tumfafi Ward, where he was also the leader of the Council.

Following the announcement of Wali’s death, Governor Bala Mohammed of Bauchi State expressed his condolences to the family of the late chairman. In a statement released by the governor’s special adviser on media and publicity, Mukhtar Gidado, the governor described Wali as a dedicated public servant who made significant contributions to the development of Shira LGA and the state. “Governor Bala Mohammed, on behalf of the government and people of Bauchi State, extends his deepest condolences to the immediate family of Alhaji Wali Adamu, the Katagum Emirate Council, and all citizens of the state over this great loss,” the statement read.

The governor also prayed for Wali’s soul to rest in peace and for his family to find strength in this difficult time. Wali’s death leaves a void in Shira LGA, as the by-election to elect a new chairman and deputy chairman was set to take place on May 24, 2025. The chairman of the Bauchi State Independent Electoral Commission (BASIEC), Mr. Ahmed Makama, had previously confirmed the commission’s readiness to conduct the by-election.
