Court Fubara Rivers Assembly

Suspended Rivers State Governor, Siminalayi Fubara, has made a shocking declaration over his political future, declaring that he may no longer be interested in returning to his position as governor.

Fubara made the surprising statement during a service of songs held in Port Harcourt in honour of the late elder statesman, Chief Edwin Clark.

Despite being repeatedly addressed as “Governor” by various speakers at the event — many of whom condemned his suspension — Fubara distanced himself from those sentiments, insisting they were personal opinions and not his own.

“Do you even know if I want to go back there?” Fubara said pointedly. “My spirit has already left there.”

His remarks appear to signal a shift in posture following weeks of political tension and public calls for his reinstatement. While some of his loyal supporters have continued to push for his return, Fubara hinted that their efforts, though well-intentioned, may have further complicated the situation.

Observers say the statement may be the clearest indication yet that Fubara is ready to move on, despite mounting pressure from different quarters. The Rivers political crisis remains unresolved, but the embattled governor’s recent comments suggest he may be charting a new path outside the state’s top office.
