Man TV Show Prize

A young man has shared how he won a N10 million scholarship and a car in a reality TV show back in 2019, only to be left empty-handed as the organisers disappeared without a trace.

A young man has opened up about a deeply disappointing experience from his teenage years.

Known on TikTok as Mayor Spice, he shared how he took part in a reality TV show in 2019 when he was just 16 and had just finished secondary school.

According to him, he was announced the winner of the show and was promised a N10 million university scholarship and a brand-new car. But six years later, he has received none of the promised prizes.

Mayor said he saw an advert for the teenage-focused reality show on TV and decided to audition. He was selected alongside 15 others, and after two weeks, he emerged the winner. At the end of the show, he was presented with a dummy cheque for the N10 million scholarship and a symbolic car key, giving the impression that his prizes were real and forthcoming.

“My life is so private, no one knew I went for a reality TV show in 2019 and won a N10 million university scholarship and a brand-new car. This is 2025, I have not gotten any and I’m done with school,” he said in his post.

Mayor and his family had high hopes for the scholarship. Believing the reward was genuine, they enrolled him at Afe Babalola University to study law. But after months of waiting and repeated follow-ups, the organisers claimed they had no funding to honour the prizes. Eventually, Mayor had to give up the admission and enrolled instead at Ekiti State University, where he recently completed his law degree—with no support from the show’s organisers.

In the TikTok comments, many Nigerians shared similar stories of betrayal and false promises. One user, @Queenie, encouraged Mayor to expose the organisers: “Call them out. We probably didn’t even watch the so-called reality show.”

@Dymphna also shared her story: “Omo eh! What about me? I won a grant of 500k, they used me for pictures and speech, then messaged me saying ‘my dear, that’s not a business, we wish you all the best in finding your path.’”

Another user, @ANDRAS LUXURY HAIR, wrote: “A foundation used my condition to raise money, posted it everywhere. People donated, but they only sent me 10k to fix the zinc and roof of my dad’s house.”

@Cynthia added, “Got a scholarship in 2016 in secondary school. I’m done with my first degree and I didn’t see a single kobo.”

These reactions show that Mayor’s case is not isolated. Many young Nigerians have been misled by fake promises from organisations and individuals who use them to gain publicity, donations, or social capital without delivering on their commitments.

Mayor’s story is a painful reminder of how hope can be exploited and how unfulfilled promises can leave lasting scars on young, ambitious lives.
