Breaking: JAMB Admits Errors In 2025 UTME, Reveals Next Action
By Gideon Ayeni

The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has acknowledged that there were errors in the recently concluded 2025 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME), following widespread complaints from candidates and parents.
Speaking during a press briefing in Abuja on Wednesday, JAMB Registrar, Prof. Ishaq Oloyede, admitted the board had encountered unexpected issues despite extensive preparations.
“What should have been a moment of joy has changed due to one or two errors,” Oloyede stated. “We set all machineries in order, regardless, there were still errors.”
The admission follows growing public concern over a sharp rise in complaints about score discrepancies and technical glitches in the examination process.
In the aftermath of the UTME, many candidates had expressed frustration over unexpectedly low scores, prompting calls for the board to review its grading system and technical infrastructure.
JAMB had earlier promised to look into any irregularities and assured the public that remedial steps would be taken if any lapses were confirmed.
Data from the 2025 UTME reveals a troubling performance trend, with 78 percent of candidates scoring below 200 out of a possible 400 points, sparking even more scrutiny.
While JAMB has not disclosed the exact nature of the errors, Prof. Oloyede assured that the board is working to identify and correct them, urging affected candidates to remain calm as the board evaluates all reports and complaints.
This development adds pressure on JAMB to improve transparency and restore public trust, especially as thousands of students depend on the exam for university admissions.
