The federal government has announced that the Ijora-Marine Bridge in Lagos will be temporarily closed for urgent maintenance work.
The closure will begin at 7:00 a.m. on Sunday, May 18, 2025, and will last for 21 days.
During this period, some parts of the bridge will be completely shut down, while others will remain partially open to traffic. The repairs will include lifting the bridge deck to replace damaged bearings and carrying out other essential maintenance tasks.
A government official explained that the closure is necessary to improve the safety and durability of the bridge for both drivers and pedestrians. “We understand the inconvenience this may cause, but this is a necessary step to keep the bridge in good condition and ensure the safety of all road users,” she said.
She added that alternative routes have been carefully planned, and traffic officers will be deployed to assist motorists and ensure smooth movement during the repair period.
“Safety signs and traffic management tools will be put in place to minimise disruption. We sincerely apologise for the inconvenience and thank members of the public for their patience,” she added.
