Tragedy As Prominent Female Broadcast Journalist Slumps, Dies At Work

The media community in Ogun State has been thrown into mourning following the sudden death of Bukola Agbakaizu, a veteran broadcast journalist with Ogun State Television (OGTV).
According to a report in The Punch, Bukola Agbakaizu reportedly slumped on Monday at the station’s premises in Abeokuta while preparing to begin her afternoon shift. She was immediately rushed to the Federal Medical Centre (FMC), Idi-Aba, where doctors confirmed her dead on arrival.
The 52-year-old was widely respected in the industry for her professionalism and active involvement in the Nigeria Union of Journalists (NUJ), Ogun State Council, where she served as an Ex-Officio member. She was also a vibrant member of the Nigeria Association of Women Journalists (NAWOJ) in the state.
Sources close to her revealed that she had been managing a high blood pressure condition and was consistent with her medication. Her unexpected demise has left colleagues and associates in shock.
Tributes have poured in from fellow journalists and industry stakeholders who described Bukola Agbakaizu as a selfless, passionate professional who poured her heart into every assignment. Many recalled her dedication to nurturing younger journalists and her reputation for kindness both on and off-screen.
“She was always there when you needed guidance. Her death is a painful loss to all of us,” one colleague shared.
Bukola Agbakaizu is survived by her two children and other family members.
