Jennifer Lopez narrowly avoided a major setback just weeks before she’s set to host the American Music Awards. The 55-year-old star revealed through Instagram Stories that she sustained a facial injury while rehearsing for the big night.

She first posted a cryptic photo of herself holding an ice pack over her red and swollen nose and eye, writing simply, “So this happened.” In a follow-up photo, she removed the ice pack and revealed a visible gash just above the bridge of her nose. “During @amas rehearsals,” she explained.

The injury was serious enough to require medical attention, but Lopez was fortunate. Celebrity plastic surgeon Dr. Jason Diamond happened to be available and quickly handled the situation. A week later, she shared a smiling photo with the doctor, thanking him: “Thank you for stitching me up Dr. Diamond. A week later and a whole lotta ice, I’m good as new.”

But while Lopez seemed optimistic and proud of her recovery, social media users were far less impressed—and many reactions were brutally honest.

One user dismissed the entire situation as exaggerated: “Career-altering injury? How dramatic.” Another quipped, “She’ll probably use this as an excuse to tweak her face again and blame it on the fall.”

Some suggested she was using the incident to stay in the spotlight: “How many articles is she going to pay for to keep her name in the news?” Others were even more skeptical: “She looks completely fine now. Probably just a scratch. Why the drama?”

Critics didn’t stop at the injury. Several users questioned why Lopez was hosting in the first place: “Why did she get this gig anyway?” Another user, clearly unimpressed, commented, “She’s suffering from overexposure, aging, and narcissism. Time for an extended break.”

Her past relationship with Diddy, who is currently under investigation, also fueled speculation and sarcasm. “Anything to distract us from the Diddy trial,” one person commented. Another wrote, “When is she testifying? She was part of that life for years.”

The doctor wasn’t spared either. “Dr. Diamond looks like a walking ad for himself,” someone noted, referring to his product-branded shirt in the photo with Lopez. “Stitches? More like glue. No way she got real stitches and looks like that already,” another added.

In the midst of all this, some took shots at Lopez’s appearance and performance history. One blunt comment read: “She’s a mediocre actress and singer… go away.” Another mocked, “She’s going to fall flat on her face during the actual show with all that makeup and fake nails.”

Despite the noise, Lopez appears to be recovering well and is pushing forward with her hosting plans. But judging by the reactions, her road to the AMAs stage may be more bruised by public opinion than by her actual injury.
