A touching video making the rounds on X (formerly Twitter) has drawn emotional reactions from Nigerians after capturing two schoolboys believed to be brothers bravely crossing a river using a fallen tree as a bridge on their way home from school.

The now-viral clip sheds light on the harsh realities faced by students in rural communities who must navigate dangerous terrain daily just to access education.

In the video, set against a dense backdrop of greenery and a muddy riverbank, the older brother is seen carefully balancing himself on a narrow tree trunk spanning the river. On his back is his younger sibling, clinging tightly to him as they inch across the precarious makeshift bridge. Both carry schoolbags, a symbol of their commitment to learning despite the risks involved.

Each step the older boy takes is deliberate and cautious, his eyes focused as the rushing water below adds tension to the already fragile crossing. His younger brother remains silent but trusting, relying completely on his elder for safety and stability.

Viewers online have described the scene as both inspiring and heartbreaking. While the brothers eventually make it across safely, their difficult journey has sparked a wider conversation about the lack of infrastructure in many Nigerian communities.

Social media users are calling on local and federal authorities to urgently intervene, pointing out that no child should have to risk their life just to go to school.

“Education is a right, not a near-death experience,” one user commented. “These boys deserve more than a tree trunk for a bridge.”
