Glitches: JAMB Reschedules 2025 UTME For Affected Candidates (See How To Check)
By Gideon Ayeni

The Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB) has announced a rescheduled examination for over 370,000 candidates who were affected by technical disruptions during the ongoing 2025 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME).
In a statement announcing the rescheduled 2025 exam released by the board, JAMB said the affected candidates sat for the UTME in 157 centres across the Lagos and Owerri zones where responses were lost due to server-related issues. The problem, which was detected on April 25 — the second day of the exam — was attributed to a service provider’s failure to update certain delivery servers, affecting the upload of candidates’ answers.
According to JAMB, a total of 206,610 candidates from 65 centres in Lagos zone and another 173,387 from 92 centres in Owerri zone were impacted by the technical error.
To address the issue and ensure no candidate is unfairly disadvantaged, JAMB has rescheduled the 2025 UTME for the affected candidates starting Friday, May 16, 2025.
JAMB stated that affected candidates for the 2025 UTME will be directly notified via SMS, email, and phone calls using the contact details they provided during registration. Candidates are also advised to reprint their examination slips to confirm their new exam dates and venues.
In a move to prevent clashes with the ongoing West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE), JAMB disclosed that it had reached an agreement with the West African Examinations Council (WAEC) to align schedules where necessary.
For instance, candidates originally scheduled to sit for UTME on Friday — the same day WAEC’s Agricultural Science paper holds — will now write their UTME on Saturday instead. JAMB explained that the overlap has been carefully addressed to minimize disruption for students preparing for both examinations.
The board also noted that literature texts for both the WASSCE and UTME are mostly similar, apart from a unique Use of English text in UTME which carries only ten marks — making the rescheduled arrangement manageable for students.
JAMB emphasized that the decision to reschedule the exam is essential to maintain the integrity and fairness of the 2025 UTME, ensuring that no candidate suffers due to technical faults beyond their control.
