Gunmen kidnap

Panic has gripped residents of Ose Local Government Area of Ondo State following the abduction of Nelson Adepoyigi, the All Progressives Congress (APC) chairman for Ward 5 in Ifon, and two other men who went to deliver his ransom.

Nelson Adepoyigi was abducted on Monday night right in front of his residence along the Ifon/Owo road. Eyewitnesses said the assailants violently dragged him out of his vehicle, struck him with a plank, and whisked him away into the nearby forest.

Initially, the kidnappers demanded a staggering N100 million for his release. However, after negotiations, the amount was reduced to N5 million.

But in a shocking twist, when two community members — Bayode Loco and Isimeri — delivered the ransom on Wednesday night, they too were abducted by the gunmen. Instead of releasing Adepoyigi, the kidnappers tied up the emissaries and took them deeper into the forest.

A family source who spoke on condition of anonymity disclosed that the kidnappers have now raised their demand to N30 million for the release of all three victims.

“This situation has left the entire family and our community devastated. We don’t know what else to do,” the source said.

Reacting to the development, Hon. Kolapo Oja, Chairman of Ose Local Government Area, confirmed the abduction and pleaded with residents to remain calm.

He assured the public that security operatives are doing everything possible to secure the safe return of Nelson Adepoyigi and the two ransom bearers.
