2025 UTME Glitches: Unilorin Breaks Ranks With ASUU, Lauds JAMB’s Integrity

In a letter addressed to the Joint Admissions and Matriculation Board (JAMB), the University of Ilorin has praised the examination body for its transparency and accountability in managing the 2025 Unified Tertiary Matriculation Examination (UTME) result controversy.

Signed by Prof. Wahab Egbewole, SAN, Vice-Chancellor of the University of Ilorin, the letter acknowledges JAMB’s courageous admission of errors caused by a service provider, which affected over 300,000 candidates. Instead of shifting blame, JAMB took full responsibility, demonstrating integrity and honesty, a rarity in Nigeria’s public sector.

The Vice-Chancellor described JAMB’s approach as a “call to the younger generation to emulate these positive values,” highlighting the board’s commitment to truthfulness and openness throughout the crisis.

The letter also celebrated the leadership of the JAMB Registrar, urging continued dedication to serving the nation with grace and integrity. Prof. Egbewole expressed pride in the Registrar as a distinguished alumnus and ambassador of the University of Ilorin.

However, GWG.ng reports that this commendation comes amid growing tension, as the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) chapter at the University of Nigeria, Nsukka (UNN), has threatened legal action against JAMB over the same glitches. ASUU argues that the board’s failure disrupted the academic plans of thousands of students and demands accountability.

As investigations continue and affected candidates prepare for rescheduled exams, the University of Ilorin’s endorsement adds a significant voice supporting JAMB’s efforts to address the situation transparently and responsibly.
