Another Veteran Broadcaster Has Passed Away

A veteran broadcaster, Layi Oyawa has passed away, having shaped the media landscape and mentored many throughout his career in the broadcasting industry.
A respected veteran broadcaster, Layi Oyawa, who was the founding Managing Director of Adanimogo FM in Ido-Ekiti, has reportedly passed away.
Oyawa had a long and distinguished career in journalism, which began after he received professional training at the University of Lagos (UNILAG).
Throughout his career, Oyawa gained recognition for his work at the Ekiti State Broadcasting Service (Radio/TV), where he became a prominent figure. He played a vital role in establishing Adanimogo FM as a respected media outlet within Ekiti State. His leadership helped shape the station’s identity by focusing on local content, promoting community engagement, and mentoring young journalists and broadcasters.
Colleagues and admirers have described his passing as a significant loss to the media industry in Ekiti and beyond. He was seen not only as a dedicated professional but also as a mentor and father figure to many in the broadcasting community. Oyawa leaves behind his wife and children, who mourn alongside his professional peers. His impact on journalism will be remembered and cherished for many years.
In a related tragic event, a female broadcast journalist at Ogun State Television (OGTV) in Abeokuta, Bukola Agbakaizu, passed away three days ago. Reports indicate that Agbakaizu died on Monday, May 12, while preparing for her afternoon shift at the state-owned station.
Her death was confirmed by the Secretary of the Nigeria Union of Journalists, Ogun State Council, Bunmi Adigun, in a statement released from Abeokuta, the capital of Ogun State. Agbakaizu, aged 52, served as an ex officio member of the Council until her sudden passing.
