Chris Brown has been charged with grievous bodily harm with intent following an alleged bottle assault on a producer in a London nightclub.
American singer and rapper Chris Brown has been charged with grievous bodily harm with intent following an alleged attack on a music producer at a London nightclub two years ago.
The 36-year-old artist was arrested by the Metropolitan Police at around 2am on Thursday while staying at The Lowry Hotel in Manchester. He remains in custody for now.
The charge is related to an incident that reportedly happened on Sunday, February 19, 2023, at a venue in Hanover Square, central London.
Adele Kelly, the deputy chief crown prosecutor for CPS London North, stated:
“We have authorised the Metropolitan Police to charge Chris Brown with one count of grievous bodily harm, contrary to section 18 of the Offences Against the Person Act 1861.
The alleged incident occurred in London on February 19, 2023.”
She confirmed that Brown is scheduled to appear before the court soon:
“He will have his first court appearance on Friday, May 16 at Manchester Magistrates’ Court.”
She also added a warning to the public and media, saying:
“The Crown Prosecution Service reminds all concerned that criminal proceedings against this defendant are active and that he has the right to a fair trial. It is extremely important that there should be no reporting, commentary or sharing of information online which could in any way prejudice these proceedings.”
Despite the charges, Chris Brown is still expected to continue his UK and Ireland tour next month. His Breezy Bowl XX tour is set to start on June 15 at Co-op Live in Manchester and will end on July 3 at the same venue.
Other shows are planned in Birmingham at Villa Park, in London at the Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, in Glasgow at Hampden Park, and also in Cardiff and Rathfarnham.
Chris Brown first rose to fame in his teens with a mix of R\&B and rap music. He was also widely known for his relationship with pop star Rihanna. His debut album Chris Brown was released in 2005, followed by ten more studio albums and many hit singles.
Some of his most popular tracks include Run It!, Yo (Excuse Me Miss), and No Air, his duet with Jordin Sparks.
