Video: Police Officer Arrested For Assaulting Uber Driver

The police inspector caught assaulting an Uber driver on Monday morning in Lagos in the viral video that shocked the public has been arrested following decisive moves by the Police Command to bring accountability and discipline as demanded by the public.
A police officer named Obic Modestus was arrested by the Lagos State Police after a video showed him assaulting an Uber driver.
The video went viral across Nigerian news platforms early Monday morning, sparking outrage.
Many Nigerians expressed anger online, saying police officers still do not treat citizens with respect. This is despite protests against police brutality back in October 2020.
Famous actor and activist Debo Adedayo, also known as Mr Macaroni, strongly criticized the officer’s behavior. He said, “Nobody should be treated like this!!! Just look at this barbarism!!! Will you people ever change??? Nigerian Police!!! Please have some shame!”
Later that day, the Lagos Police spokesperson, Benjamin Hundeyin, confirmed that Inspector Obic Modestus had been arrested. He added that the Police Commissioner, Olohundare Jimoh, will not tolerate unprofessional conduct from any officer.
Hundeyin said, “The Police Officer, Inspector Obic Modestus, has been summoned by the Complaint Response Unit (CRU). He will be handed over to the Provost Department for appropriate disciplinary measures.”
He assured the public, “The Lagos State Police Command, under CP Olohundare Jimoh, will not condone any form of incivility to members of the public.”
