Yul Edochie Speaks On Lessons As Governorship Candidate
By Gideon Ayeni

Nollywood actor and former Anambra State governorship candidate, Yul Edochie, has shared a striking reflection on the nature of political contests in Nigeria, drawing from his personal experience during the 2017 gubernatorial election.
Taking to his social media page, Yul Edochie recounted how he observed unexpected camaraderie among fellow contestants despite being political rivals. According to him, even the sitting governor at the time extended warmth and mutual respect whenever they met.
“When I ran for Governor of Anambra in 2017, I noticed something. All the governorship candidates were all friendly, including the sitting Governor. The few times we all met, there was always mutual respect in the air amidst jokes,” Yul Edochie wrote.
Yul Edochie added that, ironically, the real hostility seemed to stem from supporters, not the candidates themselves. “Funny, na the supporters dey fight up & down,” he said, pointing out how unnecessary tensions are often fueled by followers rather than the politicians.
Yul’s post comes in the wake of viral photos showing President Bola Tinubu sharing a light-hearted moment with Labour Party’s Peter Obi and former Ekiti Governor Kayode Fayemi at the Vatican, a moment that has created conversations about political maturity and civility.
Many are taking to Nigerian news and social media platforms to link Yul Edochie’s message to the Vatican meeting between Tinubu and Labour Party’s 2023 presidential candidate. They are noting how politicians often maintain cordial relationships away from public view, while their followers engage in intense online and offline battles.
