A Nigerian pastor has stirred controversy online following a bold and humorous remark suggesting that it’s mostly poor members of the church who fall under the anointing — often damaging chairs they can’t afford to replace.

In a video making the rounds on social media, the pastor, whose identity remains undisclosed, made the remark about only the poor falling under anointing during a sermon. The comment has since triggered a wave of reactions across various Nigerian news and social media platforms.

“I’ve noticed something in church,” the pastor said. “It’s mostly the poor members who fall under the anointing. And once they fall, they must break at least two chairs they can’t even afford to fix.”

He went on to share a light-hearted anecdote, recounting an encounter where he held an anointing oil, and before he could even use it, someone had already positioned himself to fall. “I told him, if you fall, I will slap you,” the pastor said, drawing laughter from the congregation.
