Trump Russia Ukraine Ceasefire

Following a two-hour call with President Putin, Donald Trump announced that Russia and Ukraine will start immediate ceasefire negotiations to end the war.

U.S. President Donald Trump has claimed that ceasefire talks between Russia and Ukraine will begin immediately, following what he described as a “very successful” two-hour phone call with Russian President Vladimir Putin.

In a statement posted on his official X handle, Trump said, “I believe it went very well. Russia and Ukraine will immediately start negotiations toward a ceasefire and, more importantly, an END to the War.”

He emphasized that the terms of any agreement would be negotiated solely between the two nations. “The conditions for that will be negotiated between the two parties, as it can only be, because they know details of a negotiation that nobody else would be aware of,” he added.

Trump characterized the tone of the call as constructive and optimistic. “The tone and spirit of the conversation were excellent. If it wasn’t, I would say so now, rather than later.”

He also suggested that Russia is interested in rebuilding its economic ties with the United States once the war concludes. “Russia wants to do largescale TRADE with the United States when this catastrophic ‘bloodbath’ is over, and I agree. There is a tremendous opportunity for Russia to create massive amounts of jobs and wealth. Its potential is UNLIMITED.”

Trump noted that Ukraine could also benefit from increased trade as it focuses on post-war recovery. “Likewise, Ukraine can be a great beneficiary on Trade, in the process of rebuilding its Country.”

According to the president, he immediately informed key global leaders following his conversation with Putin. Those notified included Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelenskyy, European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen, French President Emmanuel Macron, Italian Prime Minister Giorgia Meloni, German Chancellor Friedrich Merz, and Finnish President Alexander Stubb.

He added that the Vatican had expressed interest in hosting the negotiations. “The Vatican has stated that it would be very interested in hosting the negotiations,” Trump said.

As of now, there has been no official confirmation from the Kremlin, Kyiv, or the European Union regarding the start of talks. However, Trump’s remarks have stirred international attention, potentially signaling a new diplomatic push to end the ongoing conflict.
