Video Of Landlord Damaging Tenant’s AC Triggers Heated Reactions
By Benjamin Abioye

A dramatic video capturing a landlord destroying his tenant’s AC unit after a disagreement has gone viral, igniting strong reactions and debate online.
A heated altercation between a landlord and his tenant has sparked massive online attention, following the release of a video that shows the landlord deliberately cutting the gas pipe of an air conditioning (AC) unit installed by the tenant.
The confrontation, which many have called chaotic and unnecessary, has left viewers divided in opinion, with some baffled by the situation and others offering pointed commentary.
In the video, the landlord is seen at the tenant’s AC unit, visibly angry, as he cuts the gas pipe. According to him, he had previously instructed the tenant to remove the air conditioner, claiming he had given warnings which were ignored. The landlord went on to say that he didn’t want any AC installed in the premises and, since his warnings were not heeded, he decided to take action himself.
The tenant, in response, expressed anger and defiance, stating that he would repair the unit regardless of the landlord’s actions. He told the landlord to “get your lawyer,” saying he would fix the AC again and wait for whatever consequences might come. The landlord, not backing down, threatened to destroy the AC once more if it was reinstalled.
The video has since generated a storm of reactions online, particularly on X (formerly Twitter), where Nigerians are passionately discussing the incident.
Reactions from Social Media:

Does the light bill come flat by flat or does it come general to the compound, if it’s flat by flat and the tenant pays his bill I don’t know any other reason why the landlord would cut his ac.”

The dispute has sparked larger conversations about tenant rights, personal boundaries, and the responsibilities of landlords. Many commenters questioned why a landlord would restrict a tenant from using an air conditioner, particularly if the tenant pays individual electricity bills. Others saw it as a deeper sign of hostility, resentment, or an attempt to exert control over a tenant’s comfort and lifestyle.
While the legalities of the situation remain unclear without the specifics of the lease agreement, the overwhelming sentiment online is that both parties are now locked in a power struggle, one that may only escalate unless handled with legal intervention or relocation.
In a country where housing conditions and landlord-tenant relationships can be tense, this situation is not entirely unfamiliar. What makes it stand out is the raw confrontation and the nationwide conversation it has triggered.
