PDP Defies Anyanwu, Proceeds With NEC
By Benjamin Abioye

Despite Anyanwu’s earlier postponement notice, the PDP is holding its NEC meeting today in Abuja to discuss key party matters.
The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has confirmed that it will hold its National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting today, Tuesday, May 27, 2025.
This announcement was made through the party’s official 𝕏 handle on Tuesday morning.
According to the statement, the meeting will begin at 12 noon at the PDP’s presidential campaign office, known as Legacy House, located in the Maitama District of Abuja. The agenda includes important matters that affect the party’s direction, especially plans for future political activities.
The party wrote:
“@OfficialPDPNig 99th National Executive Committee (NEC) Meeting Holds Today at Legacy House, Maitama, Abuja.
The 99th National Executive Committee (NEC) meeting of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) is holding today, Tuesday, May 27, 2025, at the party’s presidential campaign office, Legacy House, located in the Maitama District, Abuja.”
The NEC is described as one of the top decision-making bodies within the PDP. It includes the National Chairman, other members of the National Working Committee (NWC), current and past governors, former presidents and vice-presidents, leaders of the National Assembly, state party chairmen, members of the Board of Trustees (BoT), and founding members of the party.
The statement added:
“The NEC, one of the highest decision-making organs of the PDP, comprises of Party National Chairman and other members of the National Working Committee (NWC), state governors, serving and former presidents, former vice-presidents, the chairman and secretary of the Board of Trustees (BoT), principal officers of the National Assembly, state chairpersons, former governors, and founding members, among others.
The meeting aims to address critical issues affecting the party, including strategies for upcoming political engagements.”
This announcement seems to go against what the PDP National Secretary, Samuel Anyanwu, said just two days earlier. On Sunday, May 25, 2025, Anyanwu had issued a statement saying the PDP NEC meeting was postponed. He explained the delay was to allow time for the party’s Reconciliation Committee, led by former Senate President Bukola Saraki, to finish its peace efforts.
Anyanwu had also said he was sorry for the inconvenience and promised that a new date would be shared later.
