Hajiya Zainab, a Nigerian pilgrim from Plateau State, has returned $5,000 she found in Masjidul Haram, Makkah, to its Russian owner, drawing wide commendation.

A Nigerian woman on pilgrimage in Saudi Arabia has been praised for returning a large amount of money she found.

Hajiya Zainab, from Plateau State, found $5,000 (about ₦8.24 million) at the Masjidul Haram in Makkah on Tuesday, May 27, and returned it to its Russian owner.

The National Hajj Commission of Nigeria and the Plateau State Pilgrims Board confirmed her honest act. Hon. Daiyabu Dauda, who leads the Plateau Pilgrims Board, commended her for doing the right thing.

“She demonstrated exceptional integrity and honesty by returning \$5,000 she found in Masjidul Haram to its rightful owner. That’s a remarkable act of kindness,” Dauda said.

In a separate development, the National Hajj Commission has shared that it is currently in discussions with Saudi authorities about restarting visa issuance for pilgrims.

On Wednesday, May 28, Fatima Sanda Usara, Assistant Director of Information and Publications, said several countries, including Nigeria, are asking the Saudi government to open up visa processing again.

“There is optimism for a positive outcome, and when that is realised, the Commission will immediately transport the registered pilgrims for the Hajj in another special arrangement,” she stated.

She also added that the Commission has already placed some staff on standby to act quickly if the visa process is reopened.
