Nigerians Are Demanding Safer Rides and Stricter Driver Checks After a Child Was Found Hidden In A Car Boot
Following the viral video of a child found in a ride-hailing car boot, Nigerians expressed worry and called for better safety measures and driver vetting across platforms.
GWG.ng reports that footage was sent by an eyewitness to @VeryDarkMan, who shared it along with a detailed explanation of what happened. Since then, many Nigerians have voiced their thoughts and concerns.
@iam_Bonex wondered if the app’s booking records could clear the passengers, asking, “Can’t they just use the app to show they booked a ride? That should be enough unless it was an offline ride.”
@mrblingsmadehit suggested some drivers might be colluding with the police to extort money, saying, “They set people up so when police stop them, the driver blames you and you have to pay to get free.”
@MrJapola expressed frustration with law enforcement, noting, “People don’t trust the police anymore. Imagine reporting a case and the suspect gets released after a call from someone influential.”
Passengers were urged to stay cautious. @iykeinfos advised, “If you want to use ride services, ask drivers to open their boots and check the seats first.”
Concerns about driver vetting also came up. @RemiQudus questioned the safety of using apps that don’t properly verify their drivers.
Many shared worries about overall safety. @KevinMuruta summed it up simply: “Nigeria is not safe anymore.”
This incident has highlighted the urgent need for stricter driver checks, better police accountability, and safer travel for everyone.
