Nigeria-Cameroon Women's Friendly

The Nigeria vs Cameroon women’s friendly was called off due to Cameroon’s late arrival. Only one match will now be played, rescheduled to Sunday ahead of WAFCON 2024.

The friendly match between Nigeria’s women’s national team and Cameroon at Remo Stars Stadium in Ikenne has been cancelled.

The game was supposed to be the first of two friendlies, scheduled for Saturday, marking the Super Falcons’ return to the field since their close loss to France in November 2023.

But problems with the Cameroonian team’s travel caused the plans to change.

The Cameroonian team arrived late in Ikenne on Friday, making it impossible to hold the match as planned.

Their late arrival, caused by travel difficulties from Cameroon, upset the team’s rest and the match preparations needed for an international game.

Because of this, only one game will now happen instead of two. The second match, originally set for Monday, June 3, at MKO Abiola Arena in Abeokuta, was moved forward to Sunday, June 2, at the same place.

This new schedule still lets both teams play against each other before important continental and international competitions.

For the Super Falcons, the friendly is an important step in preparing for the 2024 Women’s Africa Cup of Nations in Morocco.

Nigeria is the most successful team in WAFCON history, winning nine times and reaching every semi-final since 1991.

Cameroon, who did not qualify for the next WAFCON, is still a strong rival. The two teams have faced each other many times in tough matches, especially in tournaments.

Even though Nigeria has dominated in recent years, Cameroon has not scored in their last six games against Nigeria and has not beaten the Super Falcons since 2012.
