Police React To Video Of Officer Drinking Alcohol In Uniform
By Gideon Ayeni

The Nigeria Police Force has responded to a viral video showing one of its officers drinking alcohol while in uniform and reportedly on duty—a scene that sparked intense debate among netizens.
The footage, which quickly made the rounds on social media, drew mixed reactions. While many Nigerians condemned the behavior, describing police attitude as unprofessional and reckless, others argued that drinking alcohol doesn’t necessarily impair performance, even citing professionals like surgeons and mechanics who allegedly do the same before tasks.
One comment in particular caught public attention and prompted an official reaction. The netizen wrote:
“Personally, I’m yet to be convinced that this would impair his ability/performance. I know of surgeons, mechanics and other professionals that do this before going for major tasks. What do I know? I might be wrong.”
Responding directly to the comment, Force Public Relations Officer, ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, firmly addressed the issue and clarified the Police’s position.
“No one kicks against any officer drinking alcohol. If he or she so wishes to do it, it shouldn’t be consumed while in uniform and/or on duty. It’s against the ethics and SOP of the force. In fact, it’s a disciplinary offence in the Police Regulations. There is no decency in it. Thanks.”
Adejobi’s response underline the seriousness with which the Police Force views such conduct, especially when it involves visible disregard for uniform ethics and public image.
However, as the video continue to trend online, many Nigerians have called for internal disciplinary action against the officer in question, emphasizing the need for law enforcement to uphold professionalism at all times.
