Video: Millions Lost As Fire Razes GSM Market
By Benjamin Abioye

Tragedy struck on Eid El Kabir in Kano as a sudden fire engulfed Dan Sulaika Plaza at the Farm Centre GSM Market, causing major losses worth millions of naira.
As people in Kano were celebrating Eid El Kabir, a fire broke out at the Farm Centre GSM market on Friday.
The fire destroyed a part of Dan Sulaika Plaza, leading to the loss of goods worth millions of naira.
The exact cause of the fire was still unknown at the time of the report.
Firefighters and security officials tried hard to stop the flames, but many shops and goods were already destroyed before the fire was put out.
The Farm Centre GSM market is a well-known place in Kano where traders sell both new and used phones and computers. Many technicians and engineers also work there, fixing phones and laptops.
Luckily, no lives were lost in the incident. The market was less crowded than usual because many people were away for Eid celebrations, which helped prevent injuries.
A large section of Dan Sulaika Plaza was badly affected by the fire before emergency services managed to bring it under control.
The fire started on Friday afternoon, just as most traders had not returned from Eid prayers.
Speaking to journalists at the scene, the treasurer of the Farm Centre Market Association, Hassan Saminu, said, “The incident started around noon, catching most shop owners off guard. By the time we arrived, the fire had already spread across most of the shops. It started from one of the shops where we suspect a solar battery and electricity connection caused a spark.”
Now, traders are left to count their losses, and investigations are expected to find out exactly what caused the fire.
