‘Colorado’ Man Jumps To His Death After Eid Prayers In Ilorin

Tragedy struck in Ilorin as a 43-year-old man, said to be high on the hard drug ‘Colorado,’ jumped into a well and died shortly after Eid prayers.

A 43-year-old man named Kareem was found dead on Saturday after jumping into a well in the Edun area of Ilorin West, Kwara State. The incident happened after the Sallah (Eid-el-Kabir) celebration on Friday.

According to reports, Kareem had taken a hard drug called “Colorado” (a synthetic cannabinoid) and was not in his right mind. After returning from Eid prayers, he jumped into a well located at Ile Alapo in Edun.

The Kwara State Fire Service received an emergency call around 10:29 a.m. on Saturday. Their team quickly went to the scene and recovered the body.

In a statement, the fire service spokesperson said, “The distress call was received by the Fire Service control room at about 10:29 hours, reporting that a man had fallen into a well.” He added that the firefighters successfully pulled the body out of the well.

The statement further explained, “The victim, identified as Kazeem, reportedly jumped into the well under the influence of a hard substance known as Colo (Colorado) shortly after returning from Eid prayers.”

After the recovery, the body was handed over to the police. “The body was handed over to Inspector Babatunde Amos of the C Division Police Station, Ilorin,” the statement said. The fire service concluding, said, “The Ministry awaits formal identification and claim of the body by the victim’s family.”

Attempts to reach the police spokesperson in the state were not successful at the time.

Meanwhile, the Director of the Kwara State Fire Service, Falade Olumuyiwa, said he was deeply saddened by what happened. He used the chance to advise people to stay away from drug use.

He warned that taking harmful substances can lead to serious and even deadly consequences.
