List Of States Still Under PDP After Umo Eno’s Defection
By Benjamin Abioye

Following Governor Umo Eno’s switch to the APC, the Peoples Democratic Party’s control dropped, with the party now governing only a limited number of Nigerian states.
Nigeria’s political scene has changed again as Governor Umo Eno of Akwa Ibom State has left the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and joined the ruling All Progressives Congress (APC).
The announcement was made during a big event held at the Akwa Ibom Government House in Uyo on Friday. Many top APC leaders and governors were present to welcome him.
Governor Eno explained that his decision was based on wanting to work in better alignment with national development goals. He said the move was part of a bigger plan to bring more progress to his state.
With his defection, the PDP now controls only 10 states across Nigeria, down from 11. This marks another serious blow to the opposition party, which once held much more power across the country.
Political experts say this is a sign that the APC is becoming even stronger, especially as the 2027 general elections approach. Many believe the ruling party is gaining more influence and control at the state level.
The 10 states now governed by the PDP are:
- Adamawa
- Bauchi
- Bayelsa
- Enugu
- Osun
- Oyo
- Plateau
- Rivers
- Taraba
- Zamfara
This latest change highlights how quickly political alliances in Nigeria can shift as leaders position themselves for the next big election cycle. As more governors and lawmakers weigh their options ahead of 2027, analysts believe more defections may occur in the coming months. Political parties are expected to ramp up realignments, coalitions, and outreach efforts to secure stronger national presence. The PDP, in particular, may need to review its internal structure and strategies if it hopes to regain lost ground and remain relevant in the fast-changing political climate.
