Neymar Positive For COVID-19

Neymar has tested positive for COVID-19 and will miss Santos’ upcoming game.

Brazilian football star Neymar has tested positive for COVID-19, according to his club, Santos.

The 33-year-old forward started showing symptoms on Thursday and was immediately taken out of team activities. Medical tests later confirmed he had contracted the virus.

Santos did not mention how long Neymar would be out and also haven’t given any new updates. He was already set to miss the upcoming match against Fortaleza due to a suspension.

That game will be Santos’ last before the Brazilian league takes a break for the Club World Cup, which will be held in the United States from June 14 to July 13.

Neymar’s future at Santos remains unclear. His contract is due to end on June 30. Due to ongoing injury struggles, he has only played 12 matches this season, scoring three goals and assisting three more.

Meanwhile, Neymar’s Brazil teammate Casemiro praised him, calling him one of the best players of their generation.

“Neymar, what can I say about him? He’s an outstanding player, who, for me, in my football cycle, is in the top three, with Cristiano [Ronaldo] and [Lionel] Messi,” Casemiro said during a press conference before Brazil’s World Cup qualifier against Paraguay.

“We know that he needs to be in good physical shape, and if he’s in good shape he’s by far the best. I think it’s up to Neymar to be happy again, physically fit. He’s more than necessary, not only in the national team, but he needs to be fit physically and mentally.”

“I tell you from the bottom of my heart, this guy is better than anyone else by far. We need someone with that quality. He’s a player from another world,” he added.
