Tobi Amusan Jamaica Best

Nigerian athlete Tobi Amusan achieved her fastest 100m time this season, clocking 11.18 seconds at the Racers Grand Prix in Jamaica, securing fourth place among top sprinters.

Nigerian athlete Tobi Amusan impressed spectators on Saturday night at the Racers Grand Prix in Kingston, Jamaica.

She ran her fastest 100m time of the season during the women’s final at the event, which is part of the World Athletics Continental Tour Silver series.

Amusan finished fourth in the race, completing the 100 meters in 11.18 seconds. This is her best time of the season so far, an improvement from her previous 11.28 seconds recorded in March at the Velocity Fest. She competed in lane two in front of a crowd of 15,000 people at Jamaica’s National Stadium.

The sprint was only Amusan’s second 100m flat race this year and her third in over a year. As the current world champion in the 100m hurdles, she has been slowly trying her hand at flat sprints. Her reaction time from the starting blocks was 0.198 seconds, showing she got off to a strong start.

The race was won by Jamaican sprinter Tina Clayton, who ran a season-best of 10.98 seconds from lane three. American runner Jacious Sears finished second with 11.04 seconds. Both athletes qualified for the 2025 World Championships in Tokyo.

Young Jamaican athlete Alana Garren Reid, born in 2005, came in third place with a time of 11.16 seconds—just slightly ahead of Amusan. Tia Clayton, Tina’s twin sister, finished fifth with 11.24 seconds.

After the race, Tina Clayton said she had a good feeling going into the competition. “The last time I was this nervous, I ran 10.9, so I knew the performance would be good,” she said.

Amusan’s latest result shows progress since she moved to Jamaica in late 2024 to train with the famous coach Glen Mills at Racers Track Club. The goal of this move was to improve her speed and overall form, especially in hurdling events.

She started her 2024 sprint season with an 11.41-second run in the Velocity Fest heats. She later improved to 11.28s in the finals of that same event, followed by 11.26s at the Tom Jones Memorial in Florida. Her new 11.18-second performance is her best since she ran a personal best of 11.10s in 2023 in Florida.

Amusan continues to show strong potential not only as a hurdler but also in short-distance sprints.
