A lawyer and prominent voice for the APC, Jesutega Onokpasa—who once publicly defended President Tinubu—has died, stirring shock among political figures.

Jesutega Onokpasa, a lawyer and political analyst known for his strong support of the All Progressives Congress (APC), has died months after he recanted on his strong and passionate stance on the election of President Bola Tinubu in 2023.

The news of his passing was shared on Tuesday by a supporter of the APC, Okezie J. Atañi, who posted the information on social media.

At the time of this report, the cause of death has not been revealed. His death has come as a shock to many in the political scene, especially those familiar with his active role in national discussions.

Onokpasa had served as a member of the APC Presidential Campaign Council during the 2023 general election. He was part of the party’s Publicity Committee and often spoke on TV to defend and explain the government’s actions.

He was especially known for his open and strong support for President Bola Ahmed Tinubu. However, in a surprising turn, he recently announced that he would no longer support Tinubu’s re-election in 2027. His stance was upon the claim that critics like Daniel Bwala who fought them during the 2023 election campaign were being compensated with positions. He had as such vowed not to support the president in 2027.

He also said his decision was also influenced by the “worsening insecurity, deepening economic hardship, and the administration’s alleged neglect of loyal party members.”

As of now, the APC has not released an official statement regarding his death.
