Days after a viral video showed a man protesting the alleged discriminatory treatment his daughter faced at Emirate Mall in Ilorin, Kwara State, the story has taken a new turn.

In a fresh video making the rounds on social media, the same man who previously called out the Ilorin mall for denying his family entry due to his daughter’s disability, revealed that he had been invited by the mall’s management and was warmly received.

The man, accompanied by his daughter, expressed appreciation to the mall for reaching out. Standing in what appeared to be a part of the mall, he displayed two shopping bags and thanked the management for the gifts given to them. “I want to thank Emirate Mall,” he said, smiling. “They’ve shown us love. Please continue to patronise them — they welcome everyone.”

This marks a significant turnaround from the earlier video where the man, holding his daughter in a pink outfit, tearfully accused the mall of turning them away. “Is she not a human being?” he asked in the now-viral clip that generated widespread condemnation of the mall’s perceived lack of inclusivity.

Public outcry had called for legal action, with many demanding that the mall be held accountable for discrimination. However, the latest development appears to show efforts by the mall’s management to make amends and repair its public image.

Reactions to the follow-up video have been mixed. While some social media users commended the mall for taking responsibility and making peace, others questioned whether a few gifts were enough to address the deeper issue of discrimination against persons with disabilities in public spaces.

Still, many agreed that the viral incident has helped spotlight the ongoing challenges faced by people living with disabilities in Nigeria and the urgent need for more inclusive practices across the country.
