President Bola Ahmed Tinubu has adjusted his official itinerary to prioritize a visit to Benue State on Wednesday, June 18, 2025, in response to the escalating violence that has claimed hundreds of lives and displaced entire communities.

Originally scheduled to commission development projects in Kaduna on that date, President Tinubu has now postponed that engagement to Thursday, June 19, to personally assess the situation in Benue and lead high-level discussions aimed at restoring peace and stability.

According to presidency sources, Tinubu’s visit to Benue will include direct interactions with victims of recent attacks and meetings with traditional rulers, religious and political leaders, youth representatives, and civil society actors. The President is expected to use the visit to gain first-hand insight into the crisis and guide a sustainable path toward reconciliation.

In preparation for the trip, key federal officials including the Secretary to the Government of the Federation, the Inspector-General of Police, and top military and intelligence chiefs have already arrived in the state to coordinate logistics and security.

Members of the Senate and House of Representatives Committees on Defence are also involved in the visit, underscoring the gravity of the situation and the federal government’s determination to bring lasting peace to the region.

A special town hall meeting is planned during the visit, bringing together all critical stakeholders to discuss the root causes of the violence and chart actionable steps toward conflict resolution.

President Tinubu had earlier condemned the persistent bloodshed in Benue, describing it as “senseless” and “barbaric.” In a post on X, he urged community leaders to refrain from inflammatory statements and instead work together to heal divisions and protect lives. He also extended his condolences to the bereaved and displaced, assuring them of the federal government’s support.
