The All Progressives Congress, APC was on Sunday engulfed in a crisis that forced the national chairman of the party, Dr Abdullahi Ganduje to be escorted by heavily armed security men out of a Northeast stakeholders’ meeting that failed to endorse Vice-President Kashim Shettima in the 2027 election.
GWG.ng reports that the meeting attended by Ganduje and the national vice-chairman, Northeast, Comrade Mustapha Salihu had enthusiastically endorsed President Bola Tinubu for the presidential ticket of the party in 2027
Party stakeholders, however, demurred on the choice of Shettima in the 2027 ticket leading to a protest by some of the delegates at the meeting.
Shettima’s political protegee, Governor Babagana Zulum reportedly led the protest which eventually grew into a rowdy protest that forced the meeting to break up
Ganduje it was gathered had to be escorted out of the meeting by heavily armed security escort.
A public affairs analyst, Abdul-Aziz Na’ibi Abubakar, reacting to the development cautioned that the development in Gombe on Sunday could lead to the downfall of the APC.
“The beginning of the APC’s downfall has just begun as Governor Zulum led a protest against the APC North-East meeting for failing to endorse Kashim Shettima ahead of 2027!” he wrote on X (formerly known as Twitter.)
GWG.ng reports that a similar endorsement of President Olusegun Obasanjo by Peoples Democratic Party, PDP stakeholders in 2002 leaving out his deputy, Atiku Abubakar also instigated a political crisis in the PDP that led to a crisis of confidence between the then president and his deputy.
