Benue Tragedy: Father Reunites With Baby Son After Losing Entire Family
By Benjamin Abioye

A grieving father in Benue State was reunited with his 10-month-old son—the only surviving member of his family killed in a deadly attack.
A heartbreaking moment unfolded on Tuesday at the Benue State University Teaching Hospital (BSUTH) as a man, Mr. Targule Aya, was reunited with his 10-month-old son—the only surviving member of his family—after a deadly attack on their community.
The reunion came after the recent massacre in Yelewata and Daudu, two communities in Guma Local Government Area of Benue State, which were reportedly attacked over the weekend by suspected herdsmen. The attacks left widespread devastation, with the death toll now said to be over 200.
Mr. Aya, who survived the attack, lost his wife and three children. His only surviving son was discovered in the hospital by another survivor of the attack who recognized the baby and quickly reached out to him.
The emotional reunion between father and son drew tears from those present.
A hospital official confirmed the development and stated, “We will continue to give full medical support to the child until he fully recovers.”
In response to the tragedy, President Bola Tinubu is expected to visit Benue State today, Wednesday, where he plans to meet with traditional rulers, political and religious leaders, community stakeholders, and youth groups. The visit aims to discuss lasting solutions to the violence affecting the region.
