Chairman of the 2025 Afrihealth Conferences and Exhibitions, Dr. Dakuku Peterside, has emphasized the critical role of continuous innovation and capacity development in enhancing the quality, accessibility, affordability, and efficiency of healthcare delivery systems.

Speaking at the Afrihealth Conference — one of Sub-Saharan Africa’s premier private sector-led healthcare gatherings — Dr. Peterside, a renowned turnaround expert and technocrat, highlighted the need for sustained investment in innovation to drive transformational change in the healthcare landscape.

Dr. Peterside noted that data-driven decision-making, enabled by technological innovation, holds significant potential in enabling healthcare providers to predict disease outbreaks, tailor patient treatment, and achieve improved clinical outcomes.

He praised healthcare entrepreneurs for their commitment to addressing pressing challenges in the sector, describing them as “true problem-solvers” who are expanding the boundaries of possibility through creativity and resilience.

“I extend my sincere appreciation to the Afrihealth Development Foundation for creating this exceptional platform that unites health professionals and allied service providers from across the region to exchange knowledge and best practices,” Peterside stated.

He also paid tribute to Nigerian healthcare workers, acknowledging their dedication and often-overlooked contributions to national health outcomes.

“It is a profound honor to receive recognition from the Afrihealth Development Foundation for my efforts in healthcare advocacy over the years. This award inspires me to remain deeply engaged in supporting the transformation of our healthcare system,” he said.

Dr. Peterside further commended the Coordinating Minister of Health and Social Welfare, Dr. Muhammad Ali Pate, and Minister of State for Health, Dr. Iziaq Adekunle Salako, for their strategic leadership in implementing key reforms in Nigeria’s health sector.

“The recent globally-recognized reforms are a promising sign for the future of healthcare in Nigeria,” he remarked. “With the right leadership and enhanced technical capacity, I believe Nigeria has the potential to become a hub for medical tourism.”

He specifically lauded Dr. Pate’s efforts to position Nigeria as a regional leader in the local production of biologics, vaccines, and pharmaceuticals — a move that is expected to expand access to essential, high-quality medicines.

The conference featured an array of distinguished speakers, including Professor Felix Erondu, an expert in radiography, and Professor Lere Baale, CEO of Business School Netherlands Nigeria (BSNN), among others.
