Tension mounted at the High Court of the Federal Capital Territory (FCT), Abuja, on Thursday morning as security operatives took control of the premises ahead of the scheduled arraignment of Senator Natasha Akpoti-Uduaghan on defamation charges.

Over 200 armed police officers were deployed to the court, strategically positioned around and within the compound to maintain order and prevent any breach of peace during the high-profile proceeding. The move comes amid growing public interest and political tension surrounding the case.

Senator Akpoti-Uduaghan is set to appear before the court at 11 a.m. to face a three-count charge of alleged defamation brought against her by the Attorney General of the Federation and Minister of Justice. The charges stem from statements she reportedly made against Senate President Godswill Akpabio and former Kogi State Governor, Alhaji Yahaya Adoza Bello.

By the time of filing this report, the courtroom was already filled with political loyalists of former Governor Yahaya Bello, who arrived early to witness the proceeding. In contrast, notable human rights figures and supporters of Senator Natasha, including former Minister of Education Dr. Oby Ezekwesili, were also present in solidarity.

Top legal luminaries, including Senior Advocate of Nigeria (SAN), Roland Otaru, have arrived to represent the embattled senator in what many anticipate to be a politically charged legal showdown.
