The Governor of Edo State, Monday Okpebholo, has appointed Dr Amen Ogbemudia as the new Director-General for the Directorate of Education Quality Assurance (DEQA).

This announcement came through a public statement shared by the Secretary to the State Government, Umar Musa Ikhilor.

“It is hereby announced for the information of the General Public that the Governor of Edo State, His Excellency, Senator Monday Okpebholo, has approved the appointment of Dr Amen Ogbemudia as the Director-General of the Directorate of Education Quality Assurance (DEQA),” the statement read.

Dr. Ogbemudia is described as a highly experienced educationist with more than ten years in school management and leadership. She earned a B.Sc. Ed (Accounting) from Benson Idahosa University, followed by a Master’s in Educational Management and a Ph.D. in Educational Administration from the University of Benin.

“She is also a creative and skilled writer, capacity builder, strategy developer and a motivational speaker,” the statement added.

In another development, the Edo State Government confirmed a new outbreak of diphtheria in some parts of the state. The government has launched an urgent response plan to stop the spread and protect citizens.

The Chief Press Secretary to the governor said in a statement that residents should remain calm, as the state is in full control of the situation.

“The administration has activated an emergency public health response, deploying all necessary resources and expertise to arrest the situation,” the statement noted.

Vaccines have already been secured and a full vaccination campaign is underway, with special focus on children and other vulnerable groups.

Hospitals in the state have been put on alert. Health workers have been told to look out for symptoms, isolate suspected cases quickly, and follow standard treatment steps according to national and global health guidelines.

Governor Okpebholo is said to be directly overseeing the response, working closely with the Ministry of Health and other important agencies.
