Kiddwaya Responds To Benue Backlash After Public Donation Request
By Benjamin Abioye

After facing criticism for requesting public donations to support Benue massacre victims, Kiddway defended his actions, saying he acted out of genuine concern.
Reality TV star Kiddwaya has spoken up after facing criticism for asking the public to donate money to help victims of the recent killings in Benue State.
He had earlier encouraged Nigerians to contribute through a fundraiser set up by his charity group, the Kiddwaya Foundation, to support displaced families.
However, many people on social media reacted negatively to his appeal. They accused him of being insincere and questioned why someone known for showing off a wealthy lifestyle would ask the public for money instead of donating himself.
In response, Kiddwaya posted a message on his social media pages, explaining his reasons. He said, “I’ve seen the comments. I hear the backlash. I didn’t post about Benue for clout, I posted because I genuinely care. I am a Benue indigene and a proud Benue man.”
He added that the situation in Benue deeply affected him, and he only took down the donation post because of the misunderstandings it caused. “What’s happening there breaks my heart, and I couldn’t just look away. I took the donation post down because I saw the pain and misunderstanding it caused, not because I’m ashamed of helping, but because I respect your voices, even the angry ones,” he explained.
Kiddwaya emphasized that the real issue is the violence and suffering in Benue. “Right now, people in Benue are being attacked. Families are being torn apart. Lives are being lost,” he said.
He also defended the purpose of his foundation. “The Kiddwaya Foundation was built for moments like this, to step in where help is needed most. I will not stop caring. I will not stop showing up when lives are on the line. Even if it’s not on social media. Even if it’s misunderstood,” he wrote.
Kiddwaya, who is the son of a wealthy businessman, had shared a flyer asking for donations between ₦500 and ₦500,000. This led to even more criticism, with some saying he should use his own money instead of asking others.
An online personality also criticized him, saying people in Benue need better security, not food. He mentioned past claims that Kiddwaya spent \$30,000 on jollof rice and lost €70,000 in Ibiza, using them to question the fundraiser’s purpose.
Kiddwaya, whose full name is Terseer Waya, is from Benue State. He became well-known during the Big Brother Naija Lockdown season in 2020 and has remained in the spotlight for his luxurious lifestyle.
