A man who allegedly stole a generator worth over ₦1 million from a gym-restaurant in Agu Awka, Anambra State, was arrested after boldly returning to the same spot days later to eat and relax.

The bizarre incident was revealed in a now-viral post shared on X (formerly Twitter) by user @mr_cjayerus, who narrated how the man walked into the establishment identified as Candles, under the pretense of making gym membership inquiries.

According to the account, the man used the opportunity to study the premises. Once he felt the environment was conducive, he left and later returned with a tricycle (Keke) and a group of accomplices to carry out the theft.

“Earlier last week, this guy went to a restaurant/gym house at Agu Awka called Candles and stole a generator worth an estimated ₦1 million,” the post read. “He came very early in the morning and pretended to be making inquiries about gym membership. When he noticed that the coast was clear, he went away and came back with his guys and a Keke which they used to steal the gen.”

Unbeknownst to him, the entire operation had been captured on CCTV. In what many have described as sheer arrogance or perhaps ignorance.

While he was eating, staff who recognized him quickly alerted the police. Officers arrived at the scene and arrested him on the spot.

“He was caught while eating what he ordered and was taken away by the police,” the post concluded.

The incident has sparked a flurry of reactions on social media, with many netizens expressing a mix of disbelief, amusement, and concern over the audacity of the suspect.
