Chief John Odigie-Oyegun, former National Chairman of the All Progressives Congress (APC) and ex-governor of Edo State, has officially pitched his tent with the African Democratic Congress (ADC), the political party now serving as a platform for Nigeria’s new opposition coalition.

Oyegun, who steered the APC between 2013 and 2018 and was instrumental to the party’s historic 2015 victory at the presidential polls, is said to have made the move in protest against what sources described as the deepening crisis and internal disarray within the ruling party.

His defection is the latest in a string of high-profile moves giving momentum to the ADC’s emerging role as the face of a national opposition alliance.

Just recently, former Chief of Air Staff, Air Marshal Saddique Abubakar (rtd), and ex-senator and former Edo governor, Oserheimen Osunbor, were also named as joining forces with the ADC bloc.

Sources within the coalition said Oyegun, alongside former Vice President Atiku Abubakar and ex-Sokoto Governor Aminu Tambuwal, played a major behind-the-scenes role in championing the selection of the ADC as the unified platform over other alternatives.
