Lecturers at the University of Jos have been directed to down tools over the non-payment of their June 2025 salaries.

The directive was issued late Thursday night by the Chairman of the Academic Staff Union of Universities (ASUU) in the institution, Professor Jurbe Molwus, in a message circulated to members of the union.

According to the message, the strike action became necessary after the federal government failed to pay staff salaries by the deadline agreed upon in previous union resolutions.

“Dear Comrades, this is to request all members to abstain from lectures and statutory meetings if our salary for the month of June 2025 is not paid by 11:59pm today, 3rd July 2025,” the message read.

“This is in line with extant NEC resolution that branches should take action when salary is not paid by the 3rd day of a new month, and our congress resolution of 4th June 2025 affirming this position.”

Prof. Molwus stated that the strike takes effect from 12:01am on Friday, July 4, 2025.

He urged members to ensure full compliance until they are officially instructed to resume work, noting that the branch’s strike monitoring team has been activated to ensure adherence.
