A woman in Cross River State, Victoria Mba, has accused police officers of killing her 22-year-old son, Moses Mba. She said he was shot by policemen guarding the former residence of the state governor.

According to her, Moses had gone there to deliver what he believed was a message from God to the governor. She said, “My son was denied entry and treated as a threat. They beat him and later shot him dead.”

The grieving mother rejected claims that her son was mentally unstable. She demanded an autopsy, insisting the truth about his death must be revealed.

Speaking in an interview on Saturday, September 6, the 40-year-old businesswoman explained that Moses would have turned 23 in November 2025, but died at 22.

She said she and her husband were away for a burial on August 1, 2025, when they received a call to report to the Navy Clinic in Calabar, where Moses was admitted.

Victoria added that she later learned five policemen had blocked her son at the former governor’s residence. When he insisted on seeing the governor, they accused him of being a danger. She recounted that, “He was left bleeding on the ground from about 11 am till late afternoon.”

Some Red Cross workers, who heard gunshots, found Moses badly injured and took him to the Navy Hospital. Victoria, however, lamented that the authorities seemed more concerned with covering up the matter than saving her son.

She added, “They stationed policemen around him at the hospital like a criminal. The governor even asked why Moses dared to approach his residence.”
