Daughter of Cameroon President

The daughter of Cameroon’s long-serving president, Paul Biya, has set the country buzzing after she openly urged citizens not to vote for her father in next year’s presidential election.

Brenda Biya, the 27-year-old who is the only daughter of the president, posted a video on TikTok from Switzerland where she is currently staying. In the clip, she revealed that she had been mistreated by her own family and accused those around her of plotting against her life.

“I will cut all contact with my parents,” Brenda declared, adding that she had suffered from hurt and rejection within her household. She went further to say she would not “vote for Paul Biya” and that she “hoped there would be another president.”

Her comments have gone viral and immediately threw up a storm of debates across Cameroon and beyond. While opposition voices welcomed her boldness, officials from the presidency and government have so far remained silent.

This is not the first time the president’s daughter has sparked controversy online. She had previously posted videos that many saw as provocative, including dance clips and another one last year where she publicly disclosed her homosexuality, a revelation that stirred outrage in a country where same-sex relationships remain socially rejected.

Reactions to her latest video have been loud and divided. Some believe Brenda has exposed cracks inside the ruling family. A user, IG Guru, argued: “If am being honest she has never abused us Cameroonians or spoken bad of us. But if she comes out to say this while others are looking in one direction, I choose to look in the other… there is division in the government.”

Others worried about her safety. Calico Junior wrote: “I hope she’s going to be safe after saying that. She might be in danger from now.” Yet he mocked her appearance, saying she should “remove that ugly thing on her nose next time she wants to address the public.”

Some hailed her courage. Vannie recalled telling friends earlier that she would be the one to “expose many things happening in the political sphere in Cameroon.” Big West echoed that sentiment, insisting: “This girl is courageous than 80% of Cameroonians. Take it or argue blindly.”

But not everyone was impressed. Randa Tatang dismissed her claims, suggesting the clash with her family was tied to personal issues. “They probably just tried to talk her out of her drug addiction and she couldn’t take it,” the user alleged. Another critic, FCB General, scoffed: “After her bank account don swell… now she no want papa help. Anyways, nobi she I go blame… druggie.”

For others, her troubles drew sympathy. A user with the handle “Not all Angels have wings” commented: “This poor girl has gone through a lot because of the family she’s from. I really hope one day she finds Christ and she finds peace. No daughter deserves the hurt she’s going through.”

Some accused her of inconsistency, pointing out that she once called her father “the best daddy in the world” back in 2018. “Let us trust this ???” Melki Tante scoffed. Another, Joe Fils, went on the attack, describing her as a “pathetic little clown” who wanted Cameroonians to vote for more destruction.

Others simply laughed off the drama. Dreams joked in pidgin: “Na freedom of after speech no actually de… tell girl she ain’t a politician and repeh no fit fes vex go far.”

As the heated arguments continue online, one thing is certain: the president’s daughter has thrown an unexpected twist into her father’s bid for yet another term in office.
