“Big 3 Rivalry Is Real”: Ubi Franklin Speaks On Wizkid, Davido, Burna Boy (Video)
By Benjamin Abioye
Music executive, Ubi Franklin, has explained why it might be difficult for Nigeria’s biggest Afrobeats stars — Davido, Wizkid, and Burna Boy — to collaborate on one project.
Speaking during a podcast chat, Franklin compared the rivalry among the “Big 3” to competition in other industries, saying their positions make teamwork complicated.
“It would be difficult for Wizkid, Davido and Burna Boy to come together,” he said. “I will speak for Davido, I have never heard him for once say something ill about Wizkid or Burna Boy. And I’m sure it’s the same for them. But the environment [industry] they are will make it difficult for them to work together. It’s like the rivalry between the top banks in Nigeria. In every industry, there is the big 3.”
He stressed that the matter is not about hatred but about how the entertainment industry creates competition, adding that he has never heard Davido gossip about the other two.
The comment quickly stirred heated debates across platforms, with fans divided.
On Instagram, one user, oluchyglo, praised him: “Truth is always bitter, 🙌🙌👏👏👏 thank you Ubi ❤️❤️❤️.”
Another, bigwales001, mocked him: “Governor wan see artist that he call to perform for him and artist said he can’t see him… Ubi kilode now 😂😂😂😂😂😂😂.”
Some were harsher. mazitoni_01 wrote: “Story u wey de drop lie like album 😂😂😂😂😂.” While vibezgyh09 accused the camps of hypocrisy: “Bingos always gaslighting, when Davido called him new cat, when Shina Rambo insulted Burna Boy on a show nko! Una go throw shade, if them clap back una go begin cry foul.”
Others found his honesty refreshing. purepurity2345 said: “So Ubi get oT like this 🙌.”
On X (formerly Twitter), the debate was equally hot. @AfrobeatWatch supported him: “He’s actually right. It’s not about them hating each other, but their brands are too huge to easily merge. Everyone wants to be the number one.”
But @wizkidDirect disagreed strongly, writing: “Ubi Franklin too lie. Which artist no gree go meet governor 🤦🏽♀️.”
While @OlaCash added a comparison: “If Drake and Jay-Z can work together despite competition, why can’t our own Big 3? Pride too much abeg.”
Another user, @NnamdiTunes, broke it down: “The truth is, collaborations among superstars in Nigeria often fail because it’s not just music — egos, labels, and money matter too.”
Still, some held onto hope. @KayceeDreams said: “Imagine all three on one track — it will break the internet. One day, they will surprise us.”
