The family of late Arise TV anchor, Somtochukwu “Sommie” Maduagwu, has announced that her burial will take place on Saturday, October 18, in her hometown of Agulu, Anambra State.
According to the family’s announcement, a funeral service will be held at Saint Theresa Catholic Church, Agulu, before she is laid to rest. Ahead of that, a service of songs is scheduled for Wednesday, October 15, at Corpus Christi Cathedral, Kaduna Street, Port Harcourt.
Sommie tragically passed away on September 29, after reportedly jumping from the third floor of her apartment in Katampe, Abuja, during an armed robbery attack. She was 29 years old.
Multiple accounts suggest that she took the fatal leap in a desperate attempt to escape harm when the intruders broke into her residence that night.
Before joining Arise TV, Sommie studied Law in the United Kingdom. She returned to Nigeria and became a respected journalist, covering legal, gender, and social justice issues for the television station.
Her death has continued to generate public outcry, with many Nigerians demanding justice and improved security for residents in the Federal Capital Territory and across the country.
Meanwhile, the FCT Police Command has confirmed that an investigation into the robbery and her death is ongoing.
