He Is Not Our Man: DSS Disowns Barry Donald

The Department of State Services (DSS) has alerted members of the public to the activities of one Barry Donald, a dismissed staff member allegedly using the Service’s name to defraud Nigerians.

In a notice issued on Thursday, the DSS warned that Barry Donald has no link with the organisation and should not be approached for any service, recruitment, or “assistance” on its behalf. The agency urged citizens, corporate bodies, and community groups to be on guard against unsolicited calls, messages, or social media accounts claiming affiliation with the DSS or offering to resolve security matters for a fee.

“Members of the public are advised to desist from any dealings with him,” the Service said, adding that anyone contacted by the suspect, or with information, should immediately notify authorities.

For verification, requests, enquiries, complaints, or credible tips, the DSS provided its official contact channels: telephone 09088373515 and email dsspr@dss.gov.ng

. It encouraged Nigerians to use only these channels and to demand proper identification from anyone purporting to represent the Service.

The DSS reiterated its commitment to protecting citizens and combating fraud, noting that impersonation and extortion are criminal offences. It said anyone exploiting the Service’s name would be investigated and prosecuted in accordance with the law. It stressed official interactions are free; the Service never solicits any payment, the DSS said in concluding its notice on the activities of Barry Donald.
