How Nigeria Crashed Out Of U-20 World Cup
By Gideon Ayeni
Nigeria’s Flying Eagles have been knocked out of the 2025 FIFA U-20 World Cup in Santiago, Chile, following a heavy 4-0 defeat to Argentina in the Round of 16.
Argentina made their intentions clear from the onset, with Alejo Sarco finding the net just two minutes into the match. The South Americans continued to dominate possession and extended their lead in the 35th minute through Maher Carrizo, leaving Nigeria trailing 2-0 at halftime.
The second half brought no relief for the Flying Eagles, as Argentina maintained control and scored two more goals to seal a convincing 4-0 victory.
Nigeria had qualified for the knockout stage as one of the best third-placed teams after managing a draw against Colombia and victories over Saudi Arabia and Italy in the group stage.
Despite the disappointing exit, football fans have praised the Flying Eagles for their fighting spirit and flashes of brilliance during the competition. Many believe the young squad gained valuable experience that will shape their performance in future tournaments.
